If you ask anyone about an island in the Balearic Islands, most people immediately name Mallorca, some families Menorca, the simple life lovers Formentera and connoisseurs and night owls Ibiza.

Now, in July, the luxury hotel chain Six Senses opened its first resort in Spain in Ibiza. “In Ibiza, of all places?” you may ask. A terrific decision, because the island has everything it needs for Six Senses. When you go on holiday here, you get a perfect blend of sophisticated and authentic.

Ibiza offers opposites that are not so easy to find in this symbiosis. Historic buildings, marine biodiversity under UNESCO World Heritage, quiet villages, fragrant pine forests, olive groves, vineyards and secluded bays are playfully combined with spirituality and hippie atmosphere on paradisiacal beaches, luxurious beach clubs for nocturnal partygoers, jet-set locations and elegant yachts.

And in order to depict this wonderful melange, Six Senses focuses here, unlike in other houses, on a sense of community, an experience of togetherness.

Just 35 minutes from the airport, Six Senses has built an eight-hectare resort in the north of the island at Cala Xarraca that fits perfectly into this variety of islands and also invites you to get involved with like-minded people on holiday. If you wish, without thinking about “club holidays”. That wouldn’t be Six Senses-like.

The concept is beautifully reflected in the architecture of the resort. Generously laid out, on a cliff with west views, above Cala Xarraca, is the main house. Open to the sea, to the outside, where life takes place in summer. During the day you will always find a shady spot, in an alcove, under a sun canopy, or one of the centuries-old olive trees with a wide view over the tree-lined bay and the sea.

In the evening, you can celebrate the sunset from the room terrace, with a drink at the piano bar, lying in the huge infinity pool or in Ibiza style, at a concert in the Live Cave with adjoining recording studio, a highlight of the music scene.

You will find your own private realm in one of the 116 townhouses, deluxe, junior pool suites and caves (!), which offer every imaginable comfort in the simple, elegant style so typical of Six Senses, which takes up local materials and typical elements and thus authentically adapts to the environment.

The colors of the resort are pleasantly warm and cool at the same time. Sand tones and stone colors dominate, the furniture is made of light woods; woven and knotted carpets, linen and contemporary art make the rooms homely. Each room is so tastefully and individually designed that you will be happy to spend your time here in the hours of leisure.

In addition to the perfectly designed architecture and furnishings, Six Senses also sets standards in culinary delights and wellness.

The resort owns a nearly 400-year-old farm that supplies renowned chef Eyal Shani, celebrity chef and founder of new Israeli cuisine, with seasonal ingredients for his creations. He makes his debut at Six Senses Ibiza with his first restaurant and has also co-designed the menus for the resort’s other five restaurants. Primarily based on fresh vegetables, which stand for an organic, seasonal, nutritious and delicious cuisine and delight your palate.

Let your body and mind be pampered in the 1200 sqm spa with steam sauna, hammam, massage rooms, modern fitness room and healthy and refreshing café bar. A holistic approach is followed, on the basis of which all guests are created a very individual plan for relaxation, renewal or improved body well-being. Herbs and oils for the treatments are grown in the in-house garden and support healing and anti-aging processes.

Six Senses is one of the leading luxury hotel chains that is committed to the principles of sustainability and enforces this in every segment. As a guest, you will experience this philosophy with all your senses. Starting with the architecture, which is adapted to the landscape and flora of the country and takes up the local style and way of life.

The color palette, harmoniously matched to nature and its predominant tones. Materials that primarily come directly from the region. All products selected with great care, whether in the kitchen, in the bathroom, or in the wellness area, are ecological and of high quality.

The way the luxury resorts work makes it possible to actively practice the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste, sustainable food production, the production of in-house water, the renunciation of plastic and the protection of the ecosystem, up to the support of the community.

Each individual resort has a so-called Earth Lab, which promotes sustainable living in an innovative way. Here, employees and residents learn to live even more in harmony with nature and guests are also welcome to take part in the regular workshops.

Six Senses Ibiza is the first hotel in the Balearic Islands to be BREEAM certified, meeting the highest environmental and socio-cultural standards.
