Around 1,500 runners from 62 nations – including starters from America, Argentina, Australia, Japan, Mexico and of course Austria, Germany and the Netherlands – will be at the start of the KAT100 by UTMB® from August 1 to 3. A new record number of participants, which shows that the PillerseeTal has more than established itself in the trail running scene. For the first time, the 100-mile race, Austria’s longest ultra trail, is almost fully booked. The Endurance, Marathon and Speed Trails have also been full for weeks. There are still a few starting places available for the Easy Trail. The eight-kilometre route with “only” 243 meters of elevation gain is ideal for anyone who wants to gain their first racing experience. This distance in particular has sparked trail running fever among many participants in recent years and has not let them go to this day.

Registration is also still open for the Kids Trail. Depending on age, different distances await the little runners, who are rewarded for their efforts in the center of Fieberbrunn are of course rewarded with lots of applause.

The favorites on the marathon distanceBack to the sport and the favorites on the different distances. In the women’s marathon trail , victory will probably go to Laura Hampel. The German won the speed classification at the KAT100 by UTMB® in 2023 and has set her sights on the next route this year. With Valérie Aresenault from Canada and Martyna Mlynarczk from Poland, who has already won several ultras this year , she has strong competition.

The men’s marathon starting field is also of an extremely high standard. With the US American Hayden Hawks, a real star of the trail scene is coming to Fieberbrunn. The 35-year-old caused quite a stir at the legendary “Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run” at the end of June, where he finished just ten minutes behind the winner in third place. He only needed 14:24:31 hours to cover the 160 kilometers.

The favorites on the endurance distance It is also worth following the runners on the endurance course. In the women’s race, it all comes down to a duel between Karola Rennhack from Germany and Michaela Pilat from Upper Austria.

Daniel Jung heads the list of participants in the men’s event . In recent years, the South Tyrolean has won renowned ultra trails around the world.trails around the world in recent years and is actually in contention for victory in every race. Tomas Macecek (CZE), Goar Lopetegui Nieto (ESP), Pierre-Emmanuel Alexandre (GER) and Stephane Ricard (FRA) complete the international Elite-Field.

The favorites in the 100-miledistance Sophia Schnabl from Innsbruck stands out in the women’s race. Two years ago, she had already competed in the 100-milecourse of the KAT100 by UTMB® two years ago and finished in second place . This year, of course, she wants to win.

The list of favorites in the men’s event is long: In addition to the three Austrians Gerald Fister, Bernhard Achhorner and Sepp Jetzbacher, five other elite runners will tackle the 173 kilometers and 9.900 meters of altitude difference through the Kitzbühel Alps. They have all taken part in countless ultras around the world and have often entered their names in the winners’ lists, but all eight are celebrating their premiere in Fieberbrunn this year.
