Starck became a world-famous star designer through a commission from the then French president: François Mitterrand entrusted him with the interior design of the Elysée Palace. After working as an interior designer at the Café Costes in Paris, his name was on everyone’s lips: Starck furnished numerous hotels, shops and nightclubs. He is also becoming increasingly popular with furniture and accessories manufacturers, because his ideas are an excellent way to open up a broad market. His designs are extremely versatile, ranging from simple everyday objects to spectacular interiors.

“Everything I do is a symbol. Everything I do has meaning.” – Philippe Starck

There is hardly a place where his objects are not represented. Starck’s well-known designs include the Juicy Salif citrus juicer for Alessi, the elegant Ara table lamp for Flos and the innovative plastic chairs for the Italian manufacturer Kartell.
