Stefanie Fritz and Johannes Höcherl have a clear goal: to serve good food with good ingredients and few animal products. This is in keeping with the spirit of the times – her restaurant Das Kulinariat in the hip Westend has been considered a new hotspot for Munich foodies since its opening in August 2020.

The cuisine is honest, sustainable and simply extremely delicious. The current menu boxes, which are available “to go”, consist of vegetarian, partly vegan basic ingredients and add-ons in the form of fish and meat. So you can put together your own food and prepare it at home according to well-explained step-by-step instructions. This not only promotes the desire for fresh, regional food, but also fuels the enjoyment of what is later on the plate.

It’s also nice to see how creative chef Johannes is at the culinary delights. Sometimes the 4-course menu “Easy Peasy Italy” is on the agenda for a week with fluffy Parmesan foam soup, fresh pasta with rocket pesto, followed by either roast veal or aubergine casserole (aubergane) and for dessert a tiramisu. Sometimes the food box consists of salsify cream soup, red braised puree with maple grill parsnip and a quince fondant au chocolat.

For their tasty creations, the two owners cooperate from time to time with Munich gastronomic greats such as the master baker Julius Brantner and the confectioner Julia Mauracher from Anton and Ella. As far as Das Kulinariat itself is concerned, it is a beautiful triad of restaurant, event location and green backyard oasis. A place that enriches Munich’s gastronomic scene in many ways.
