Next week, Till Brönner will perform at the Jazzfest in Bonn – and we are curious to see what the virtuoso jazz trumpeter and photographer will play there. But what the musician himself hears is at least as interesting. And he told us that exclusively.

“Above all, music is one thing: pure emotion” says jazz trumpeter Till Brönner. And his definition of bad music, which follows on from that, so to speak. It is “music that obviously follows trends or is a bad copy of the original – that always makes my teeth grit.”

Fortunately, the self-confident musician proves bite and originality not only in his albums, but also in his personal playlist. And although, according to his own statement, he listens to very different genres, he can’t deny his home in jazz. His favorites?

We are presented with original works written by great musicians. Among them: Al Jarreau, Tony Bennett and Chet Baker. The only question that remains is what Brönner is listening to.

“It’s very difficult for me to ignore the theoretical part of music. At some point I realised this and began to free myself internally from all the things I am capable of listening to, so that I really only test music for its effect,” he says. Or to sum it up briefly: he only listens to the music – and we just join in.
