The result of this fusion was presented to kitchen, architecture and design enthusiasts at the Milan Design Week from 16 to 18 September. until 21. April 2024 at the Superstudio in Milan. It was a love of wood, a passion for design and architecture, a fascination for fire and cooking that brought the kitchen builder from Herrieden and the architect from Berlin together. The idea was to create an extraordinary metaphor for the kitchen and cooking, for community and communication. The hob, a central point in every kitchen, was the inspiration for the name of the project and the new campaign: „The Fireplace“.
The fascinating result of the collaboration was a pantheon-like pavilion that presented itself from the outside in its powerful naturalness: organic and warm, enclosed and inviting at the same time. Natural spruce trunks formed the round, the dome consisted of seemingly randomly assembled bundles of wood, through whose gaps the light sought its way into the interior. Upon entering, the centrepiece was revealed: the next125 kitchen. The central kitchen island with the centrally positioned hob was located directly under the dome and was bathed in a mystical morning atmosphere by the rays of light streaming down. The bronzed mirror glass on the fronts and sides of the kitchen island extends the illusion of light and space almost to infinity and enhances the raw interior walls of the pavilion. But the real centre of the whole room was the cooking area, „The Fireplace“. It was incorporated into the natural stone worktop from the Systemo range. It was sensually staged by a beam of light falling down from the centre, backed by a tall cabinet built into the pavilion wall. Its oak veneer, dyed through in onyx black, is a new front design that will be presented by next125 at this year’s EuroCucina.
Another innovation is the round extension table positioned at the side of the kitchen island with its striking metal base, which invites people to get together and talk – Kéré’s basic idea of the kitchen as a place of community is celebrated here.
„It shows the power of inspiration of a creative maker like Francis Kéré. With his creative impulses, a campaign motif was created that will carry the brand essence and values of next125 forward in the near future and can tell many more inspiring stories.“ – Markus Schüller, Managing Director of Schüller Möbelwerk KG on the collaboration with Creative Maker Francis Kéré
