Making the inconspicuous shine in a new context – the artistic approach of the internationally exhibiting artist Reiner Xaver Sedelmeier to seemingly simple, readily available materials proves to be particularly harmonious in his collaboration with the KPM Hotel. Even the cups, vases and plates designed with the so-called Mandorla motif, which R.X. Sedelmeier designed for KPM Berlin in collaboration with KPM’s head designer Thomas Wenzel are immediately impressive. The almond-shaped mandorla decoration, originally used in European sacred art since the 5th century AD, is ubiquitous in everyday life as so-called “chequer plate”. Everyone knows it: the offset, almond-shaped bumps prevent slipping. Standing in the shower, you can feel the pattern and look out over art, design and Berlin. The boundaries are fluid, the space becomes art, the place an oasis of calm, a temporary home.
Reiner Xaver Sedelmeier is concerned with “the appreciation of simplicity, and the Mandorla motif symbolises this perfectly”. The exclusive, spacious suite of the KPM Hotel with its individual interior design proves to be the perfect stage for Reiner Xaver Sedelmeier’s art objects. Whether the table with Mandorla plate, the Mandorla triptych on a wall in the living area of the suite or the Mandorla drawn on handmade paper in the bedroom – the décor sets exciting accents and emphasises the overall homely impression of the suite with its modernity. The realisation of the motif in the finest KPM porcelain refines the ingenious, seemingly simple form and at the same time enhances the functionality of the fine porcelain pieces in an original way. In addition to the Mandorla Suite, works of porcelain art from the KPM Berlin porcelain manufactory can be admired throughout the KPM Hotel & Residences. Fascinating animal sculptures, utilitarian objects in modern or classic designs, artistic decorations – elegant eye-catchers that make the ambience so unmistakable. KPM Hotel & Residences: The art of the upscale hotel industry.
The KPM Hotel & Residences combines maximum comfort and cosiness with a clear, individual design signature. A retreat with contemporary flair. In addition, comprehensive, attentive service and many amenities that cater to the needs of discerning capital city guests. KPM Hotel & Residences: the essentials in perfection.
